Increase character limit on states table for short description

Please consider increasing the character limit (or getting rid of it) for the states/provinces table. As it becomes more critical to ensure addresses are formatted correctly for international constituents, it seems that this table has not kept pace with international address formatting standards. I have taken the time and put in the effort to format each country's address display in Configuration>International, but if I can't put a Mexican province in the states table because it exceeds the character limit, then it defeats the purpose of correctly formatting each country in Config. For example, if I have a constituent record with an address in the province of Michoacán in Mexico, the abbreviation/short description should be MICH, according to the Universal Postal Union standards (ref. http://www.upu.int/fileadmin/documentsFiles/activities/addressingUnit/mexEn.pdf). Currently, the character limit is 3, so I can't input this province. Mexico alone has eight provinces that are abbreviated to four characters or more.

Is there a way that the states/province could be linked to a table based on the country used?  What's the work around for this?

Please update this field! This is necessary to allow us to mail to Mexico and is preventing me from meeting the needs of our gift officers who concentrate on Mexico constituents.

Hey Marie! I can see that in the Portal this shows as though it was logged by a guest (instead of by you) but it looks like you are listed as a Subscriber, so you should get updates. I'm logging this note just to make sure you get the update. :)
