I used to use a CRM software called ACT! http://www.act.com/
In ACT!, you could create a group of constituents, based on specified features (what we call a 'query' in RE), and you could do a mass email to the group from within the ACT! program. The program was integrated with Outlook, so the email sent was a basic, personal email, rather than a 'marketing' email created in an online platform. When you sent the email to the group, ACT! would create an action, with all of the details of your email, within each unique constituent record. You did not have to go into each record, or do a global action. because the action in each record was automatically created when you sent the email. This would be SO useful in RE!
