RE should automatically apply soft credit when applying one constituent's gift to pay another constituent's pledge

When Constituent A makes a pledge, but Constituent B makes a gift that is applied to that same pledge, Constituent A is not automatically soft credited for the payment (BB742611). This should be an option so that reports can accurately reflect what the person gave - including payments that another constituent made toward their pledge. Users can soft credit manually, but I suggest that the soft credit be applied automatically or at least offer a business rule to select that soft credit be automatically applied when a payment is applied to another constituent's pledge.

While I could support as on option to choose when selecting the pledge to apply the payment to, I would not it to default that way. Our procedures are to SC only when it is that person's $. When Person B pays A's pledge, that doesn't mean it is/was Person A's money or that we would want it counted toward what person A gave - to us in most cases Person A didn't give it if it was someone else's $.

I agree with Anonymous - I would love to see this happen. It makes total sense to me. If you don't soft credit, as a person's pledge is paid off, the payments made in their gift profile (incl. soft credited ones) wouldn't add up if there are some missing. Eg. $10,000 of a $50,000 pledge has been paid, but only a payment of $5,000 is showing in their profile because the other $5,000 payment was not soft credited to them. How then can you link back to the gift that was paid against their pledge by the 3rd party?
