Currently in NXT, you can select which gifts show as committed or received in Analyze. However, when you open a constituent record, the committed and received definitions under giving are not using your selection. (ie. if you exclude GIK from your analyze dashboards, GIK will still appear in the constituent records under the received totals) Anytime committed or received is used in NXT, it should always have the same gift type set up.
