In cases where constituents have a lot of recurring gifts, having soft credits displayed makes it difficult to work with the Gifts tab.  The soft credits are needed for data selection (to count both spouses gifts, for example) but some users prefer not to have them displayed.  In fact, they are requesting that we not apply soft credits.  This will create significant work to make sure couples are treated appropriately in data selections.
