Record negative items so that they subtract from total. This will show as a reversal in any month necessary without changing prior recorded information.

A gift adjustment, as I've just been told by Blackbaud support, entails changing a gift to zero, thus wiping out important information: the original gift amount. If a pledge is not fulfilled, it is possible to maintain the amount of the pledge and then write it off. We need the equivalent for a gift that, for example, needs to be returned.
This is what a gift adjustment is for. I am not sure what you mean.
