I realize this could be a huge undertaking, but since my education is in video production/editing (far cry from development, I know), and we learned in class that editors who are more dependent on the mouse take a significantly longer time to complete projects than those who are keyboard-saavy, I really wish RE were more keyboard-friendly. I like the shortcuts that are available (find myself using Ctrl-L to save and close in other programs, where it doesn't work!), but additional shortcuts would be great!
Particularly with the new options on the Search window in 7.92...let me use a keyboard shortcut to jump to another search field instead of having to grab the mouse to move to Address, or hit Tab 15,000 times.
And/or, how about allowing me to hide (as a User Option, or in Config/Admin for the whole database and all users) search fields. We don't save bank, credit card, ssn, data...so we really don't need those fields on the Search Window.
Blackbaud -- PLEASE pay attention to this post. The keyboard shortcuts already in place in Raisers Edge are great, we appreciate them. But there is definitely room for improvement. Keyboard shortcuts are important to your user base as you can see from the number of votes registered for this suggestion. Surely as developers who spend a majority of time writing code, you understand the importance of keeping your fingers on a keyboard. PLEASE listen and be responsive to this idea. Thank you.
It would be really great to be able to set some of my own shortcuts, but primarily I would love a shortcut for the "Next Gift" button on a gift for when I'm scrolling through query results.
Amen! I hate having to switch from keyboard to mouse, to keyboard to mouse, to keyboard to mouse, over and over just for basic data entry.
We have been asking for this for YEARS!!!
Hitting Tab a bunch of times is a pain, but at least it can be done. When version 6 first came out (first non-DOS, Windows 3.11 version of RE) there were some things that simply couldn't be done at all without a mouse click and drove the speedy data entry folks crazy (I had a long talk with Blackbaud about the fact that we only have two hands, not three). The move from a text-based interface to a GUI was supposed to eliminate having to memorize all those cryptic keyboard combinations to get at a function (CTRL+ALT+F7, etc.), but that doesn't mean that we have to completely give up that keyboard functionality to get a GUI. Part of Blackbaud's usabilty testing before releasing a new product/version/function should include a computer with NO MOUSE at all.
"Mouse dependency" can give users tendonitis- another reason to develop more keyboard shortcuts!
I have tendonitis in both elbows. Had surgery on my right elbow 2 years ago. Please address this.
I have worked in other programs where you were able to create your own shortcuts. This could simply be in Tools/Create Shortcuts. This could then be multipurpose for so many users.
