Currently, Gift Type (database view) cannot be edited after it's been entered. The only way to change a gift record is by deleting the gift and creating a new one, which can be cumbersome, time consuming and inefficient if you have to change multiple records.
We use gift type=Other to enter event payment records. But whenever NXT event registrations come in from the registration form the gift type is "Cash". This is a huge problem because for us (Canada) an event payment is not a donation. We need to change these to Gift type=other but we can't. We have to adjust the gift record to $0.00 (we can't even delete it!), move that gift record to a dummy constituent file in order to keep the original constituent's file clean, then recreate the whole gift record with gift type=other. We use import to do this but import won't link the event payment to an event so that has to be done manually. This is all very cumbersome. If only we could simply change the gift type to "Other".
I would agree to have this Gift Type editable and change it for any defaults as well as alpha order using the Administrators security.
Per KB #193239, Gifts added through RENXT cannot be deleted anymore! This adds more problems as you cannot even manually correct these anymore via Delete/Add or Export/Import. We have issues where people left the default of "Cash" instead of changing it to "In-Kind" for non-monetary donations. BB told us we should change the amount of the gift to $0.00 and then add a whole new Gift with the correct Gift Type. This makes no sense since the value of the gift is already $0.00 on this gift entry. We are duplicating a gift in the database for no reason.
It would be nice if we had the ability to simply change the Gift Type to one of the other available drop-down options already defined for this field. I don't understand how this ability impacts the "functionality" of Webview.
Caveat to this: make it part of the security options so that it can be unchecked/unselected so that users can't accidentally change it.....
