In the hosted environment, the dashboards tend to "multiply" every time I make changes to our main Development Dashboard. Then, when the team goes to "Select Shared Dashboard", there may be 5 or more instances of the same dashboard.
If the auto-update feature is added, please make it a per-user setting that can be turned on or off. While I agree auto-update could be handy, any sort of auto-updating page can also cause problems.
Michelle! If no one has replied to you yet, RE will do that in hosted or non-hosted environments because it's showing up for each security group. If all of your users are in several security groups then your security settings need to be reviewed and updated. if you have one main security group that has the baseline rights for all users and you want to share those dashboards with all users, only select that one security group. if you have a dashboard that you want to share wth multiple and legitimately separate security groups then the dashboard will show as more than one entry only for those folks who are members of more than one of the affected security groups but will appear once for those who are only a member of one of the groups. Contact me if you need help. It's easier than it sounds.
Dashboard criteria selection should match report options or at least allow more filters. The appeal summary includes every gift given instead of filtering by the gifts with only "this" fund type as my query requests.
Auto-update would be amazing. I thought the dashboard was just inaccurate for quite some time until I remember the refresh. Now if only my colleagues would remember this AND depend on dashboard for instant info instead of me :)
I disagree with the auto-update suggestion. This could potentially slow down the launch of the dashboard, depending on how many dashboard panels were created and the filters selected. I much prefer the option of manually refreshing only those dashboard panels I want/need refreshed, when I need them updated. However, reading the other comments, I do like the idea of being able to schedule the refresh.
I believe it should be a feature you can set for certain dashboards should you want to do it. I also agree that some of mine I would not want to auto-update.
This would be WONDERFUL - it is just irritating that it isn't updating automatically when the app can update automatically and other places do as well. Thank you for considering this.
It is just even frustrating that the action reminders dashboard on the home page auto-updates but others can not.
However if something like the recent gifts list were to auto-update they need to add timeframes like last 30 days because if you have "this month" then on the 1st of the next month you have an empty list which is frustrating - especially if yesterday's gifts have not been completely entered.
I think the combination of auto-refresh and the addition of an option like "last 30 days" for a rolling list would be much better than the current system. I basically never use the Dashboard because it is slow as molasses -- even though the rest of RE is running super-fast on our bandwidth. If it would auto refresh when opened, or even once a day (reflecting all activity through the end of the day before, for example), I'd find it much more useful. Most of the time, I just rerun a query and get the numbers that way, but then I have to export to Excel to get totals. Bummer.
Agree with your comments Gracie - question though, Why are you not using a gift detail and summary report to get totals instead of exporting to excel to get totals?
I don't like this suggestion as, like Whitney, I think that potentially if you were simply returning to get your last figure quickly the refresh would take longer than a sly quick glance, causing frustration.
Awww - I missed this. Can I still give input Jennifer?
they are good for a broad overview but when you begin to drill down any at all, they crash the system.
Convio has great dashboards. Hopefully they'll shoehorn some of that awesome into RE dashboards.

yes, can be very misleading otherwise.
plus extra steps just take (waste) time with little value added (as opposed to automating).
Makes it difficult to have to explain this step over and over again to the higher-ups. They don't think to do this and call with panic - often.

I'd like to be able to schedule dashboard update per user

I agree this would be a huge assistance, and if you dont want the dashboards to update on there an option to disclud this option

AGREE!
Dashboard should update automatically. My FD team wont use the dashboard cause they get frustrated with this feature.
