When you use a query list as selected records in Export is is impossible to sort the export. Example: I used query list to create group that I needed to print pledge cards for using BB simple merge export. Tried to sort export so cards would be in alpha order. Could not do it.
Per case with support: "I have completed testing this issue, and I have found that no matter what sort fields are selected in the Query List, when it is used in an Export, it will default to sorting by the System Record ID."
"It is functioning as designed. The sort within Query List was designed to only be applied when the Query List is opened. The sort will not be applied within any other areas of the database.
I will create a Knowledgebase that outlines this behavior. As soon as it is completed, I will notify you. You can subscribe to the solution, and if the feature is changed in a future patch/release, the solution will be updated and you should receive an email."
So using a query list in Export, Mail etc will not allow records to be sorted. Sure limits the use of query lists.
This is a terrible pain. If I use a query list to do a mail merge, it sorts by record ID. Then we can't find anything! So we are left to choose between sorting by record ID (basically not sorted if you ask me) and using a "specific record" query (not very useful when you're merging many queries or segmenting a mailing).
Knowledgebase solution BB734123 "Query List sort order does not apply to order in Export, Mail, or Reports" says that it is "functioning as designed - well, BB, as my son's PE teacher says when the kids run across they gym "You're wrong, go back and walk."
I agree, would be helpful if labels, letters could be printed in desired order, Alpha, City, Zip etc.
This is awfully frustrating. My goal was to create a mail merge through Export using a Query list, in addition to printing envelopes using Mail. Now my envelopes are printed in alphabetical order, but the letters are previewing in a completely jumbled order, with no ability to sort. To add further complication, the letters do not include an address block - only the constituent's first name - so it is nearly impossible to match letters with envelopes. I've given up with Raiser's Edge and resorted to creating a new export, using Excel format. I've exported the query list to Excel to create a mail merged letter in MS Word. This has been a complete waste of time for a program we pay A LOT of $$$ for.
I am creating mail merges through Export using a Query List. I was so shocked to discover that my letters were not in alphabetical order! The envelopes had already been labeled (alphabetically), so that means a laborious process to match the 300 or so letters by hand! Very inefficient use of our time.
I LOVE the Query List function because it allows us to create a list that includes and excludes who we need. PLEASE fix this problem with the sorting through Export and I will be happy.
