When in batch, and once a constituent name has been entered, it would be great to have the constituents' current 3-5 appeals come up instead of having to go into the record and then appeal tab to see what appeal has been assigned, then go back to batch and enter....hoping my short term memory is good.

The easy solution to this (which if you're not already doing it, makes no sense at all) is to have the appeal code printed on the response piece (envelope/tear off) so that you KNOW as soon as you open the envelope which appeal the gift is in response to! Are you NOT doing this already? It's pretty much fund raising 101.
Agreed - gift processors should not be guessing why somone made a gift based on recent appeals - they should be using clear codes on reply devices and if they do not include one - I do not let my gift processors "guess" - it is just whitemail.
Also - I think something like this was already suggested.
We also use a business rule that pops up in batch telling the data entry person the recent appeals and packages and alerting them that there may be a note on the appeal - such as personalized by ...
