When existing constituents enter their own info on a new gift or event registration they often enter slightly different formats than exist in RE, for example, "Joe and Jane Smith" as the name - Joe Smith and Jane Smith may already exist as separate records, but your system then creates an entirely new record for "Joe and Jane Smith." This creates a large number of duplicate records.
Most of the time the emails or mailing addresses actually match existing records....but your system still creates a new constituent record. Causing a lot of maintenance work in merging, updating, and then deleting the duplicate records that were needlessly created. It's particularly hard with event registrations, because the details of the event registrations then have to be manually checked and transferred.
Please, improve your constituent matching system, OR just stop creating new records entirely - give RE user's an option when processing the gift or registration (in the gift processing page) to create the record or not BEFORE the approval of the gift or registration
