Restore ability to open pdf files from media attachment in database view

The current process to open pdfs from media implemented with patch 27 is counter-productive.

Hi all, I can understand that losing the convenience of direct-opening media files is frustrating, especially if you weren't expecting it. I apologize for that frustration and inconvenience.

As the last commenter noted, this change wasn't made lightly, and was in the interest of security for both our hosting environments and every customer. When Raiser's Edge media functionality was designed, it was a different cybersecurity environment and convenience was the primary goal. Now, virus delivery through many file types is much more common and we made the determination to sacrifice that convenience for a more secure environment.

We have no plans to allow for direct opening of files within Raiser's Edge or RENXT database view.

PDFs and Microsoft documents have too many security vulnerabilities to allow users to use them. A well place Word doc on a system can gain root access to your workstation. How many of you save passwords in plain text in a document somewhere? I bet a lot. Data security is much more important than convenience.

We are self-hosted and just applied the most recent patch to accommodate the receipting function due to Mastercard rules. Needless to say, losing the functionality to just double-click and the document opens in it's native app is STUPID!! Why fix something that is seemingly not an issue. Why create the extra step of having to save the file to open it??? BRING BACK THE DOUBLE-CLICK!

This has created a fairly large problem for our organization. It is nearly useless to attach media in database now because you have to export to open. My default location for exports was some sort of Blackbaud file that I don't even know how to find. ALSO, links to files no longer work. Very frustrating and definitely a step backward.

This is frustrating and was never mentioned as part of the Microsoft plan.

Yes I was unsure if this is temporary or not, but for now, I don't understand going backward in functionality. My team has yet to go through the tutorials about the changes coming at the end of this month and will go through them together early next week. So far though, this particular issue is making us apprehensive about what else is coming. I hope it's better than we anticipate.
