I like the selective copying of relationships idea. Especially when a spouse dies, copying all of their family contacts can be really tedious, and viewing spouse relationships does not make them queryable for the spouse.
You do know you can filter in relationships already whether or not to view the spouse's relationships? I think the filter is automatically selected to hide them but you can unhide them.
I do think, however that family relationships should be "shared". I have somewhere else suggested that individual relationships have a "family" checkbox to help with filtering family relationships for the relatinship tree (but it would also be great in the constituent profile to show family relationships, in export, etc.
You know you can "view" spouse relationships by unchecking the "hide spouse relationships" checkbox in filter on the relationship tab.
While this would be nice for some relationships, for others sharing would not provide accurate data.
