There should be a query option that can handle "Membership Status equals X on [specific date]" or something similar to that. Currently, if you need to find out how many active/lapsed members you had on a particular date, it's not really feasible without doing an enormous amount of work. With a query option that has this functionality, you would be able to report on those figures more accurately as well as perform other similar tasks when necessary.
