The current RE (7.92) does not allow more than one matching gift pledge per cash gift. Sometimes, donors assume that they can only get a match for the tax-deductible portion of a gift. When we let them know that they can match the entire amount of an event registration (including the non-deductible portion), they submit a second matching gift request to their employer. In RE, however, we cannot record that second request, so we have to change the value of the existing MG pledge. As you can imagine, when we try to reconcile MG Pledges with an employer's list of submitted requests, it takes much longer to find all of a donor's request. First of all, MG Pledges should be optional in the first place. Second, there doesn't seem to be a good business reason for why a gift cannot have multiple MG Pledges.
I've been in this biz 25+ years and I've never heard of a single corporation that will match the value of goods and services provided. In fact, I'd think that wouldn't be kosher. Would you be willing to share which corporation you're dealing with that matches the FULL amount (including the value of G&S?)
That being said -- all you need to do is adjust the MG pledge gift amount to reflect the updated amount if you're certain the MG company will match the full amount. There's no way the system could possibly have 2 MGs for a single gift -- what a trainwreck just waiting to happen!!
I've not heard of a company that matches value of goods and services either. Language is very clear with the matches we do that it's no G&S, fully tax deductible.
