I have a gift that was converted from an old database with the gift date of 11/7/1849. Since the rest of the donor's gifts are from 1975 through 2003, I'm fairly certain that it is a typo and should have been 11/7/1984. However, because we posted the old gifts after the conversion, I can't fix this gift easily. RE will not let me adjust the gift date so that this gift will show correctly in reports.
So here's another wrinkle to this..... the only way to alter the gift date is to directly update the field itself (and the G/L Post date). In my opinion, and within my organization, this date should not be changeable willy nilly like this, and open to anyone changing it. It can drastically affect so many things both in our office and other places! The fact that we use adjustments to change anything on the gift after it's been entered, but we CAN'T use it to adjust the gift date? Unreasonable, bad for accounting and finance purposes, and unacceptable.
Christine, In my opinion having the option for users to change gift dates would not agree with accounting practices/audtitors evaluaations etc.
You always have the option to delete and re-enter the gift with the correct date.
Or use the unpost gift utility to unpost the gift and change the date. :)
