sub fund

Add the option to have sub funds. We use all of the tabs for our funds but some funds are for similar purposes and we would like to group them together under one fund rather than adding more funds.

We actually have to use a work around for this. Our business office can be very strict about fund codes and sometimes do not want to create additional codes, and often they are not necessary. However, for our purposes, we would like to be able to have sub - codes. I know that many organizations use appeal codes or re-purpose another way, but we are already using many of those fields. We use 123 - tickets, 123 - raffle, 123 - auction. For the BO, it's all 123, but for us it kind of matters.

    Have you considered gift-subtypes?

I have always preferred to set up separate funds but link them together using Fund Category or even simply set up the GL structure identically so they all go to the same fund in finance with the same GL string but we internally know it is a slightly different restriction. I do not think I want sub-funds.

We handle this the way Nicole S. does. For instance, we have a fund called Gala 2013 (823). Our business office/finance office knows this fund as cost center #823 (hence the cross reference in our RE fund naming system.) In development, we need/want to track all the ways this money was raised, so we use Gift Subtypes to define the income stream....e.g. Gift subtypes like Gala-Raffle, Gala-Live Auction, Gala-Bronze Sponsor, Gala-Full Pg. Journal Ad, Gala-Donation only, Gala-Table of 10, etc. It works GREAT for us!

Basically a gift subype IS a sub fund.
