When merging records - any data brought over from the other record gets coded as added by the person doing the merge and added on the date of the merge. The original added by and date added are lost. This is stupid and causes QA issues. Why can't it keep the original data? It is disingenuous to say the merger added that information.
This is interesting Melissa. I have never noticed this. I try to use the oldest (typically most data-rich) as the keep, and this would override part of the reason we do this.
