As a Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser, I deal with company records which can be tricky to manage.
I'd like a Head Office indicator check box and the ability to search for a company based on this.
It would save me masses of time trawling through records or labelling them in the name 'Company PLC - Head office' which isn't very professional when sending letters from exports. It would also make it easier to identify the head office record when linking branch and Head office record via relationships.
It was intensive work, but I set up a lot of this at a previous organization. We used alias types of NHQ for "National Headquarters" and RHQ for Regional Headquarters. The alias itself would read "Walmart NHQ" which was completely searchable if the "check aliases" box was selected on the search screen, yet did not appear in letters.
We also linked all of the subsidiary organizations to the company using the "Parent Company" info on the Org2 tab. But the more helpful part was to link them on the Relationships tab as well.
It worked pretty well, and we had literally hundreds if not thousands of organizations to link together. Our database was over 600,000 records, though maybe only 4000 were organization records. But it allowed that team of solicitors - and anyone else in the organization - to easily identify the point of contact. There is more that we did in terms of solicit codes and soft credits, but the alias type was probably the best solution.
Thanks Karen, a simple solution that will make my life a whole lot easier.
