When inputting a relationship's position, it is limited to 50 characters. When someone is the "Senior Manager of Great Communities in All Types of Various Places" It makes it impossible to fit that information into the position field. When you have to do a mailing you cannot keep track of all the positions you shortened just to fit in the field.
Come on, Blackbaud. It's embarrassing that you haven't fixed this. This should be SUCH an easy fix and low hanging fruit for customer satisfaction. Can we PLEASE get 100 characters? The character limit causes a ton of manual labor for staff. We have rules internally against abbreviations and staff has to constantly spell out again things that were abbreviated to fit, or try to interpret the abbreviations of another person. We would much rather spend our time fundraising and calling or meeting with donors than reformatting abbreviations.
I completely agree! More and more positions today are legitimately longer than 50 characters - e.g., "Vice President, Regional Division and Senior Manager, Product Development." To truncate it with unnatural abbreviations is a very poor solution. The only other option is to create an attribute for Title - but then it's buried and doesn't get pulled in various automatic processes. It seems like it should be an extremely easy fix for Blackbaud to increase the number of characters from 50 to 100!
I agree with Jason - having a limit of only 50 characters is problematic and creates extra work in data entry because of the need to devise abbreviations that make some sort of sense.
I agree with this. We have many position titles that are longer than 50 characters and it is really hard at times to come up with an abbreviation that is appropriate.
