Creation of Group ID

Allow the creation of an ID that all members of a group or a family could be assigned, Which would allowing you to see everyone who is a member of a given group, the total amount of gifts that members of the group have given, and many other advantages that I can't think of right now.

You cannot have duplicate Constituent ID's in RE...the problems would be monumental. However, you can easily assign "group ID" by setting up an attribute category called "Group ID" and then create drop down tables for the description field that are the actual group numbers or names. Then you can easily pull queries/reports on constituents with that attribute category & description.

Lisette, I have seen you bring up the "create a new attribute" solution with a lot of the comments you make, and as much as you may like it, many of us would like better, more intelligent solutions to the problems we run into. For one, If you actually read what I wrote, I didn't suggest a duplicate constituent ID, I suggested a separate group ID. Second, with a large database, a pull down of every possible group would be ridiculous. The list of groups would grow to an insane size very quickly. Also, what if we have three separate families with the last name Williams (which, by the way, you would find that many organizations do)? Do we mark them Williams 1, Williams 2, and Williams 3 and then try to remember which family is which? I think it can honestly be said, that yes, creating an attribute is a solution to many problems, albeit not a great solution, so you can stop recommending it now.

I find your comments to be condescending and rude.

    Hi Benjamin
I've accomplished this task by using a Constituent Name type attribute. I agree that it's not ideal, but if you can identify who your Primary Donor is then you can use the donor name to establish the link. There are a few quirks that have to be taken into consideration but I would be more than happy to walk you though what we've configured.
